Way back when Erin was in 7th grade she lived in San Diego Co., CA. Her uncle was living in Walnut, right outside the Mt SAC facility. She was visiting one weekend and it happened to be the day they ran the FootLocker West Regionals. The first race of the day is always the junior high race. She came over and entered herself in it. At that time she was not a trained runner per say. She was a soccer player. I had my team down there. I was a jr high coach. So I watched the race and Erin dominated the entire course. Often she didn't know where to go, and the crowd quickly figured that out and directed her through the turns. But she won by a ton. Afterward, she and her uncle where near the finish line and I introduced myself and learned a little bit about her. So when I got home I called her dad and talked to him. I simply told him that next week in Albuquerque, NM was the national race. If she won the Mt SAC race there was a good chance she would win the Nats too. So I referred him to the San Diego Southern California RoadRunners Club. They had runners going and were near him. The rest is history. Erin traveled to NM, with one week's preparation, and finished 2nd by ten seconds to a girl from the DC area. I've followed her through her running career, and am very proud to see her doing so well and graduate this year from Columbia. She's an Economics and Political Science major. Doug and Dana, her mom and dad, have a lot to be proud of.","date_added":"Mar 31st 2013, 2:54pm","nest":0,"liked":false,"member":[],"can_delete":false,"item_id":79258,"item_type":"video","pb_image":"i\/no_avatar.png","pb_title":"mike mather","pb_url":"profile.php?member_id=9172","pb_url_dns":"https:\/\/mike-mather.runnerspace.com\/","pb_wally_id":"10030"},"729006":{"pb_id":"9172","pb_type":"members","likes":"0","parent_id":"0","pid":"729006","comment_id":"729006","member_id":"9172","comment":"A story worth telling!
